I just love all the features of this small laptop. It is convenient to carry and will fit in my purse. The battery life is amazing. So far all is well. I have several organizations that I am secretary for and this is the perfect laptop for me to use. It is even WI FI capable for the printer. I do love it and would recommend it to anyone needing the use of a laptop but not the bulk.

Review from a Linux user.

As soon as this arrived, I installed Ubuntu on it, so this is a review from a Linux user’s perspective.

But first, the hardware– I got the blue version, and must say it looks absolutely wonderful. It has a nice gloss, it does collect fingerprints, but I find that they aren’t that noticeable. It is very light, and it’s screen is very clear and vivid, even on the lowest brightness– sometimes, I can even see the screen with the back light turned off. The keyboard is really nice, I find it just as easy to use as the one at home– the backspace button is right next to delete button, but that is a minor annoyance, and might only apply to me, cause I keep accidentally mixing the two up. Other then that, the keyboard has been spectacular– and believe me, it’s gotten quite a bit of use. I was scared that the touch-pad might be too small, but it is just right… in fact, I find it more usable then most laptop’s touch-pads. The netbook itself seems quite sturdy, and is extremely light and small. The battery does last nine hours, sometimes a little less, but it is always a considerably long amount of time…

Now for the software. The netbook boots up really fast, I would say that it is almost on the same level as my more powerful desktop, which is quite good. Sleep/suspend work wonderfully, and it comes out of sleep mode in an instant. The webcam works wonderfully, and I spent some time playing with the cool effects… the microphone doesn’t pick up sound as well… Compiz works fine, and it doesn’t seem to slow down at all, even with the effects turned up quite a bit, so that means I can use the four workspace/box setup often seen on Youtube, should I want to. Sound, special keys, bluethooth, everything worked out of the box. Wireless is pretty good from what I can tell, my network is a bit shaky– but then it always has been. Other networks seem to work well, but it isn’t the fastest connector if the network is far away. I installed an extra GB of ram, it was immediately detected and I haven’t had any problems in that regard… I can’t say I’ve noticed a huge speed difference since installing the extra ram, but I can have Openoffice, Firefox, Thunderbird, and Songbird(Soon to be Nightingale) up, and being drawing fire on the screen all at the same time without having slowdown.

Overall, I’m very impressed with the Acer AOD250, and would buy it again in a heartbeat.

Live Long and Prosper: The Netbook Version

I purchased this netbook in advance of going to a professional conference one month ago and I’m thrilled with its performance. The battery lasts nearly as long as they say (somewhere between 7-8 hours) although less long depending on what applications you are running. The keyboard is quite large enough for easy touch-typing, and the machine runs quietly. It is sufficiently slim that you can put it in a largish handbag and take it just about anywhere.

I got the Windows 7 software version, and then downloaded the free word processing package Windows Beta 2010, which is sufficient for my writing and powerpoint presentation needs. It took a little bit of experimenting to get used to how the applications layout is different from Windows XP, but now I zip around between applications with ease.

The netbook feels very light, but also very sturdy, and the larger 9-hour battery is only slightly heavier than the 3-hour version. So it’s well worth it to me to have a little more weight but a lot more running time. An excellent choice for home use and basic work needs. I highly recommend this model.

Acer Aspire Netbook

Nothing really to add to the many positive reviews I have read. I followed suggestions to remove one or two pre-installed programs, esp. the trial offer for virus/security and have opted for Microsoft Security Essentials, which seems to work so far, without the very slow start-up associated with other applications of this type. I have installed ‘Open Office’ instead of the MS Office trial – no major issues so far. Some slide builds seem a little slower than P*w*rp**nt – have not determined whether it’s the application or the machine.
Replaced the memory chip with 2GB – easy once I worked out where the chip was located and how to unclip it (there are three ‘trapdoors’ and it was the last place I looked …). Performance is decent, wireless card works throughout our home with no problem except occasional reluctance to find my Airport Express hub, for use with iTunes. Keyboard OK – I am not a ‘touch’ typist, so it does not slow me down appreciably. Battery life very good – certainly would reach nine hours with only light wireless use. With wireless I get 7 hours.
The only somewhat annoying feature is the touchpad – I don’t like these much in any case, but this one occasionally is excessively sensitive and other times needs some persuasion to work, but I suspect that this may be down to the operator, rather than the machine.
In short, an excellent little machine.

Great for daily needs

I bought this for my wife who didn’t like lugging a laptop around for size/weight for simple things like web browsing. This works well for our web cam use (built in web cam does great) for skype calls to friends/family. She uses this for your office documents, as well as email and browsing the net. It lasts about 7 hours on a full charge, sometimes longer depending on if we’re watching a movie or just browsing the web. My wife particularly enjoys how small and light it is, yet just big enough to be functional. I was looking at an iPad for her..but the price at 2x as much with less hardware specs and not being able to run more than one app at a time were all deal breakers. How anyone would want an iPad for 0+ over something like this is beyond me!

Acer Netbook

My husband and I purchased this netbook to take along with us when we travel and for vacations. We have used it everyday since it arrived. The desktop pc is seldom on. I loved having the Acer when I was hospitalized. It made the days go by quickly. It is so light weight and the screen resolution is of great quality. Best purchase we have made!
