An announcement of getting anything for free will always be tainted with doubt, this is a fact. The world does not simply trust anyone anymore, because it seems that there isn’t anything that’s free at all. So news plastered anywhere even featured by cable news is still not expected to be believed outright. Not even CNN featuring news on free iPad to be given away by Apple Inc.

What the public don’t know that freebies like this have always been true. Because this is part of the quality assurance testing of manufacturing industries. All products are tested before its release to the market, this is traditionally done in-house. Meaning these companies employ quality tester, in case of devices, to basically “burn” the product to its maximum limit.

However, remember they are employed by the company, which means there’s the tendency of bias because of loyalty. Hence, the company will only know the real deal of their product once it is released to the public. That is when their product becomes vulnerable to the wear and tears of its users. And so the real judgment about the product comes.

It’s been proven by some manufacturing industries that giving away free product to test is effective in gathering unbiased feedbacks. And Apple Inc. has also seen this big picture. The competitions with smart handy devices are so fierce that they can’t settle for traditional testing method. So, instead they offer free iPads to anyone, the only catch is testers need to return feedbacks about the product.

There’s nothing difficult about it; Apple has nothing to lose considering the impact it will create after tester’s feedback. There are two things that the company will get from giving away free iPads. One, positive comments will be good for marketing and promotions. Two, negative comments will be used for future upgrades of the product.

Sometimes, the freshest ideas come from ordinary users, not from people paid to come up with these ideas. This is the real market research which part of the quality assurance cycle of a product. Which is why, products are given out for free to ordinary people? So this article should serve as learning instance, that sometimes the word “free” is really true.
