In a keynote speech this past week Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs has announced the release of a new product, creating significant chatter throughout the technology community. The internet is buzzing with reviews and opinions on Apples new iPad which is simply described as an oversized iTouch or iPhone. The iPad features a 9.7 inch backlit LED widescreen touch screen display. 1024 by 768 pixel resolution, and a capacity ranging from 16 – 64 gigs. The 1GHz Apple A4 processor serves to fill your craving for virtual media through various apps and a browser. The iPad is chock full of sensors including an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, and mood sensor (just kidding, maybe next year).

With all of the excitement surrounding the iPad many opportunities to get one for free have started to surface. Most of these offers require a user to jump through multiple hoops and promotional surveys before receiving their iPad, but that’s not the case with the offer I used.

I came across a site which is looking for people to test the new iPad, when you’re finished you keep the product as a thank you. Now some of you may be wondering why a company would do this, and the answer is simple. IMPROVEMENTS. Every well structured company needs average Joes to test out their products and highlight any flaws. This testing data is priceless to a manufacturer who will make improvements to the device based off your reviews. These improvements will lead to better quality and a higher demand for their product.

The company I tested an iPad for shipped the product to my door free of charge. After testing the iPad for 7 days I was asked to write a 300 word review talking about flaws I noticed and suggestions for improvement. After receiving my review the company sent me a thank you note and reminded me that the iPad I tested was mine for the keeping.

I wouldn’t expect an offer like this to be around for too much longer. I assume that when the iPad buzz settles down this offer will be yanked, so get yours while it’s still live.
