Mother’s Day is the one day a year that Mom gets pampered to the extreme. They get breakfast in bed, gift certificates for massages, cards, flowers, chocolate and more. But what do Dads get for Father’s Day? Not much! Most Dads really get the short end of the stick so to speak. You don’t hear about Daddy Daughter spa days or flower deliveries for Dad very often. So, maybe this year is the year to make Dad feel just as special as Mom does on her big day.
Dads like sentimental gifts just as much as Moms do, they just don’t advertise it and don’t have fits when they don’t get them. The best Dad usually gets is a steak dinner and a fishing trip down to the same old fishing hole, where he gets to untangle fishing line and break up fights between the kids all day. So how about doing something nice for Dad, like an electronic gift, homemade goodies and some down time just hanging out before you take him out for something really exciting.
Because Dads like electronics, some new toy or accessory is always appreciated. If buying electronic accessories for gaming, try to set an hour or two aside to have a Dad vs. Kids gaming tournament. Those always turn out to be fun. Taking cell phone pictures of yourself preparing your Dad’s special presents or trip on his new cell phone and wrapping it up makes an excellent gift.
More great ideas are outdoor trips that are actually relaxing for Dad. Take him to a water park, car show or race if there is one nearby. If you take him fishing, don’t make him untangle your fishing line or bait your hooks all Dad. Show your Dad that he has taught you well how to fend for yourself, and make the day as pleasant as possible for him. Don’t fight with your siblings and clean the fish yourself. A nice fish dinner prepared over a camp fire while you tell sentimental stories about the great times you’ve had together is a great ending to a great day. So, get out there and make his big day the best you can.
